In-Hospital Laboratory

Our in-hospital laboratory provides state-of-the-art blood chemistry, hematology and parasitology equipment for both emergency and routine testing. This allows our doctors to quickly and accurately diagnose and treat ailments in your pets on-site.

We also make extensive use of our laboratory for pre-anesthetic blood profiles for our surgical patients. This allows us to detect any underlying conditions that may not be observable upon physical exam and ultimately increase the safety of our anesthetic procedures.

For more involved laboratory needs (i.e. histopathology, cytology, endocrinology, virology,...) we extensively utilize Antech and Idexx laboratories for our out of hospital needs. All of this is done to give our clients and their pets the most thorough and efficient laboratory services available.

Laser Surgery

The Animal Medical Center is also proud to perform surgical procedures with our Acuvet CO2 Surgical Laser. Why use laser surgery for pets? First and foremost, the laser significantly decreases post-operative pain by sealing nerve endings as it cuts through tissue. Decreased pain also means that lower amounts of anesthetics are often needed. For some laser surgeries, only a local anesthetic is required. The laser also decreases bleeding and swelling by sealing blood vessels and lymphatic tissue. These benefits potentially decrease the length of a surgical procedure. Finally, the laser decreases the risk of post-operative infection by sterilizing as it cuts through tissue.

Our laser can be used for just about any surgery that is performed at our hospital, from routine spays and neuters to more involved orthopedic and soft tissue surgeries. Our goal is to stay on the cutting edge of technology so that we can always provide our clients and their pets with the highest standards of service and care. Our Acuvet CO2 Surgical Laser is one more means of doing this.

Surgery

Our surgical suite is fully equipped to meet the needs of our patients, whether routine spay and neutering procedures or more critical abdominal and orthopedic surgeries. We use the safest anesthetic medications and monitors, including our Surgivet monitor. This allows us to monitor a patient’s heart rate, respiratory rate, blood oxygen levels and temperature.

Radiology and Penn HIP
(Hip Improvement Program)

The Animal Medical Center is equipped with complete on-site radiographic capabilities. This provides our doctors with a vital diagnostic tool to quickly evaluate our patients, especially in critical care cases. Dr. Vall is also certified in Penn HIP radiology.

Penn HIP is a proven objective scientific technique that allows for the early detection and predisposition to hip dysplasia in our canine patients. It is useful not only for young growing dogs, but also for adult canines that may be manifesting later signs of hip dysplasia.

If you are interested in having Penn HIP radiographs for you dog or have questions about the procedure, please feel free to call Dr. Vall at (719)687-9201.

Animal Dentistry

Dental health is critical to the well-being of your pets. Periodontal disease is one of the most common ailments that we diagnose in our patients. Unfortunately, it is often unnoticed by a pet’s owner until the condition is severe. Tartar on your dog or cat’s teeth will often lead to gingivitis and premature tooth loss.

At The Animal Medical Center we stress the importance of dental cleaning procedures when needed. We also demonstrate animal dental hygiene so owners can help reduce future problems. This may involve brushing and rinsing techniques with veterinary dental products, as well as the use of CET Dental Treats for cats and dogs.

In-Hospital Pharmacy

The Animal Medical Center maintains a full-service on site pharmacy that allows us to fill most of our patients prescription needs quickly and affordably and avoiding additional trips to another pharmacy. For clients who have pets with special prescription needs we often use specialty pharmacies that are able to place many pill prescriptions in palatable liquid formulations, for example, tuna flavored liquid antibiotics for cats!

If your pet needs a refill, please call ahead at (719)687-9201 and we will have their prescription waiting for you.
